HHS, 1986. Twenty years ago, a movie ticket cost $4. "Back to the Future" and "Pretty in Pink" were the great date movies of the year. "Cheers" and "Cosby" ruled prime time. Live Aid was a hit, the New Coke -- a miss. We danced to the tunes of Madonna and Michael. We went to Wendy's and asked "Where's the beef?" Big hair, big shoulder pads, big belts...everything was big in the 80s.
The HHS class of 86 was full of talent and spirit. Our field hockey team won the State championship, the soccer team went to the State Semi-finals. We were smart, too! Our scholarship awards totaled $762,000. The spirit of the class of 86 was evident in everything we did: from attending sporting events, to dressing for Halloween, to taking part in "Oklahoma" or the school talent show. Who could forget the HHS Minnow, the Ginsu knife chefs or Dave Crocco's incredible talent?
The seniors led the way all year. When the place was falling in ruins, it was our principal, Mr. McDonnell, who put the seniors in charge of "Phase I"....the grand commons clean-up. We had carte blanche to harrass underclassmen in the name of a clean cafeteria. And it worked...we never had to experience the dreaded "Phase 2". We went from being "one of the worst 8th grade classes ever to walk Hudson Jr. High's halls" to the kids in charge in four short years! Now that's progress!
Now 20 years have passed, and it's time to see what we're up to and who we've become. Many of us have kept in touch over the years, some have lost touch but would love to re-connect. After all this time apart, we can get back together and feel like not a day has passed.
So, let's meet on the weekend of July 14 and 15 to reminisce about all these old times, laugh a lot and find lost friends. It will be "like, totally awesome."
